The final qualifier in the Indian Premier League playoffs takes place on Friday when Rajasthan Royals meet Royal Challengers Bangalore (3pm UK time).

Both sides will be vying to reach the final and face Gujarat Titans for the 2022 Indian Premier League title. The Royals lost in Qualifier 1 but their superior league position meant they received this second chance to make the grand final. Royal Challengers Bangalore were able to overcome Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator and will be hoping to go one step further and make their first final since 2016.

Match prediction: Rajasthan Royals to take a second bite at the cherry

Two of the best sides in the Indian Premier League meet to determine who will face Gujarat Titans in the 2022 IPL final.

Rajasthan Royals have reached this point following a second place finish in the group stages. A successful season saw them enter Qualifier 1, where they faced the Titans. They were unable to win that match but, due to their lofty league position, were given a second chance in this match, Qualifier 2. The Royals have much to thank Jos Buttler for, with the England vice-captain scoring 718 runs, over 100 more than the next highest run scorer in the competition.

Royal Challengers finished fourth in the table, meaning they entered the Eliminator with Lucknow Super Giants. They were able to overcome the Super Giants on Wednesday, securing a 14 run victory over their rivals. Their success has been more heavily built on partnerships and they have six players who have all secured more than 200 runs in the competition, something that can only be said of one other side this year.

This look as though it could be a very tight match with the two sides also having the two most successful bowlers this season. The Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal has taken 26 wickets so far, just one more than Wanindu Hasaranga for the Royal Challengers and both will be keen to move clear in the race for the Purple Cap.

The bookies also see this as a close contest with the Royal Challengers having the slight edge in the market. The Royals have some true talents on both sides of the pitch though and they can claim a narrow win here, due to some moments of magic from the likes of Buttler and Chahal.
