Match prediction: Lucknow to pick up slim victory
The second playoff match of the week sees Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore clash for the chance to play the loser of the Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals in the next round. The two clubs have made it to this point by finishing in third and fourth in the league respectively and will be hoping to make it all the way to the final.
The Super Giants can consider themselves unlucky not to be in the playoff match to make it straight to the final after missing out on second place by virtue of their net run rate being worse than the Rajasthan Royals. The majority of their success has come through the success of the partnership of K L Rahul and Quinton De Kock, who have notched up over 1000 runs between them this season.
The Royal Challengers were a bit fortunate to have made it to this point, with their win on the final day of the regular season being enough to see them squeeze into fourth at the expense of Dehli Capitals, who suffered a shock loss to bottom side Mumbai Indians. Faf Du. Plessis has been the main man for the Challengers, scoring over 400 runs but they’ve struggled lower down the order.
The Super Giants come into the match as the slight favourites and that seems to be the most accurate description of how events should unfold on Wednesday. Lucknow should have enough to take the win here and move on to face the Titans or the Royals for a place in the 2022 IPL Grand Final.
