Internacional vs Corinthians build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Diego Aguirre’s Rolo Compressor are currently enjoying a purple patch that has seen them consolidate a position in the top six, with the Porto Alegre side suffering just two defeats in 14 games and enjoying seven wins, including that 4-0 away triumph against third-placed Flamengo in August, in which Yuri Alberto bagged a hat-trick.

For Corinthians, they are level on points with Internacional but outside the top six, and only in the Copa Sudamericana positions, so former Lyon manager Sylvinho will be hoping to make strides in the dugout and leapfrog his opponent on Sunday. As a player Sylvinho won Brasileiro in 1998 with Corinthians and will be aiming to replicate that triumph as a manager at some point down the line, but for now the focus is on securing a Copa Libertadores place.

  • Internacional (vs Bragantino): Lomba; Saravia, Rocha, Cuesta, Moises; Cardoso, Lindoso, Mauricio, Taison, Patrick; Alberto.
  • Corinthians (vs Sao Paulo): Cassio; Queiroz, Victor, Gil, Santos; Cantillo, Santos, Giuliano, Augusto, Adson; Guedes.

Player to watch: Taison (Internacional)

The 33-year-old Internacional captain accelerated his reputation during a highly-fruitful stint for Shakhtar Donetsk between 2013 and 2021, regularly transfixing terraces in the Champions League as The Miners captivated the competition with their surfeit of Brazilian show-stoppers.

Long tipped to leave Donetsk and turn out for a major European powerhouse in one of the continent’s top five leagues, Taison stuck around at Shakhtar and mopped up a plethora of silverware in Eastern Europe, chiefly 2019/20’s Ukrainian Premier League Footballer of the Year and the Ukrainian Premier League Best Player of Season.

His success in Ukraine culminated in the double-jointed winger earning eight caps for Brazil between 2016 and 2017, with the Selecao unable to ignore his talents in a division not renowned for developing international talent for the five-time World Cup winners, Shakhtar aside.

Now back in familiar pastures for the club whom he initially developed with, Taison, who won the Copa Libertadores with Internacional in 2010, is now the captain of his boyhood team and aiming to push Rolo Compressor up the table to make South America’s flagship tournament next year.
