Inter Milan vs Verona build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A first Serie A championship since 2010 is fast approaching on the horizon for Inter Milan whose current lead atop of Italy’s top division stands at 10 points. Antonio Conte’s men though go into this weekend’s game looking to seek a return to winning ways after registering consecutive 1-1 draws on the road against Napoli and Spezia respectively. It nevertheless extended their unbeaten run to 16 matches (12 wins and four draws). At home they’ve been imperious of late having won their previous 12 league outings at San Siro on the bounce. Their longest such run since putting a 13-match winning streak together which ended in May 2011. During this aforementioned recent period of consecutive home victories the Nerazzurri registered 32 goals whilst conceding just eight times.

Things couldn’t be any different regarding Verona who are currently on a three-game losing streak. They last suffered four consecutive Serie A defeats in May 2018 as part of a seven-game run. Nevertheless the Veneto-based team can record a piece of history this weekend. A win for Ivan Jurić’s side means Verona will have equalled their club record for most away wins in a single Serie A campaign set in 1984/85 and 2013/14 (both six). Two of those wins have come in their five most recent away trips (0-3 v Benevento and 0-2 v Cagliari) and speaking of the past Verona’s last top-flight win against Inter came back in February 1992 (a 1-0 success at home) since then I Gialloblu have lost 15 times whilst securing four draws.

  • Inter Milan (vs Spezia): Handanovic; Skriniar, Bastoni, De Vrij; Hakimi, Barella, Eriksen, Brozovic, Perisic; Lukaku, Martínez.
  • Verona (vs Fiorentina): Silvestri; Dimarco, Günter, Dawidowicz; Faraoni, Ilic, Tamèze, Lazovic; Barak, Bessa; Lasagna.

Arturo Vidal (knee) and Aleksandar Kolarov whilst Hellas Verona must do without the suspended Stefano Sturaro and injured duo Miguel Veloso (neck) and Ronaldo Vieira (muscle).

Players to watch: Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan)

It’s fair to say Romelu Lukaku’s switch to Inter has been a resounding success. The 27-year-old Belgian marksman helped the Nerazzurri finish second in his inaugural Serie A campaign subsequently bagging 23 goals and they’re set to go one better this season. The former Manchester United striker is a hat-trick away from surpassing last season’s output but he also goes into this game looking to end a three-game scoring drought. If he manages to breach Verona’s defence then Lukaku becomes only the fourth Inter player to bag 15 or more home goals during a single Serie A campaign in the last 45 years after Christian Vieri (19 -2002/03), Diego Milito (17 -2011/12) and Mauro Icardi (16 – 2016/17 and 2017/18).
