Ones to watch

Inter Milan: Lautaro Martinez

Romelu Lukaku has rightly received a lot of plaudits and focus for his form this season since joining from Manchester United. But that has taken some of the attention away from Lautaro Martinez.

The 22-year-old has grown over the past few years since joining from Racing Club, first playing understudy to Mauro Icardi before partnering Lukaku.

Martinez is the perfect partner for the Belgian, allowing him to be the main forward while still chipping in with crucial goals. His performances haven’t been overlooked by everyone, however, with Martinez being linked with a summer move to Barcelona.

Key stat: Lautaro Martinez has scored 16 goals in 30 games across all competitions for Inter Milan this season.

Sampdoria: Fabio Quagliarella

Fabio Quagliarella scored more goals than any other player in Serie A last season, netting 26 times. But the Italian has not been able to have the same effect this season.

Now 37, the forward has managed just seven league goals this season with Sampdoria struggling near the bottom of the table. However, that is still enough to rank higher than any of his team-mates.

Quagliarella’s partnership with Manolo Gabbiadini may not bring goals this weekend, but it will still give Inter something to think about.

Key stat: Fabio Quagliarella is Sampdoria’s top scorer in Serie A this season with seven goals.

Team news

Inter Milan

Inter will be without Roberto Gagliardini and Stefano Sensi once more, so Conte could look to field a similar line-up to the one that started against Lazio — having rotated vs Ludogorets.

Lukaku will return in attack alongside Martinez while Christian Eriksen may drop back down to the bench. Samir Handanovic may also return after missing the past five games.

Predicted XI: Handanovic; De Vrij, Godin, Skriniar; Candreva, Barella, Vecino, Brozovic, Young; Lukaku, Martinez.

Both Gaston Ramirez and Nicola Murru are suspended for the trip to Milan, with the former accumulating five yellow cards and the latter getting sent off in last weekend’s defeat to Fiorentina.

Ronaldo Vieira and Tommaso Augello could replace them, with Gabbiadini and Quagliarella continuing their strike partnership.

Predicted XI: Audero; Bereszynski, Tonelli, Colley, Augello; Thorsby, Vieira, Bertolacci; Linetty; Gabbiadini, Quagliarella.

Squawka prediction

Inter bounced back from their defeat against Lazio by beating Ludogorets in the Europa League with a fairly rotated squad, giving some of the bigger names a rest.

But the bigger question will be whether they can bounce back in the league this weekend to keep the pressure on those above them. The answer should be yes, with Sampdoria languishing at the wrong end of the table. They were heavily beaten by Fiorentina last week and lost two players to suspension in that game, taking a depleted squad to the San Siro.

Scoreline prediction: Inter Milan 2-0 Sampdoria
