Inter Milan team news

Inter got their pre-season off to a winning start in midweek by beating Lugano 4-1 thanks to goals from Danilo D’Ambrosio, Joaquin Correa and a Lautaro Martinez break, but there is no time for rest as they have another four matches before opening their Serie A campaign away to Lecce.

Simone Inzaghi’s men haven’t spent big in the summer transfer window so far, aside from the £21.3m obligatory purchase of Joaquin Correa, but they have brought in some big names. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Andre Onana have joined on free transfers, the latter expected to be the club’s No.1 goalkeeper, and of course the loan return of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian started the 4-1 win against Lugano and should do the same here, rekindling his partnership with Martinez.

Monaco team news

Monaco got their pre-season preparations underway before a lot of other clubs, having their first friendly as early as June 25 with a 1-0 win over Cercle Brugge. That’s partly due to Ligue 1’s slightly earlier start in the first weekend of August, but also because Monaco will contest the Champions League third qualifying round, with the first leg coming just before their domestic opener. Monaco will be looking to return to the Champions League group stage after a four-year absence, dropping out at the play-offs last season and are unbeaten in pre-season, winning two and drawing two.

But they will have to do so without Aurelien Tchouameni who left for Real Madrid in an £85.3m move, with Takumi Minamino and Breel Embrolo the only arrivals so far.

Scoreline prediction: Inter Milan 2-0 Monaco
