Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta announced the club are interested in signing Edin Dzeko and Nicolo Barella.

Inter are starting a new era under the management of Antonio Conte and the club appear to have some ambitious transfer plans.

Will Inter sign their targets? Five key things to know…

  • Inter finished fourth last season to earn a Champions League spot.
  • The club parted ways with Luciano Spalletti, replacing him with ex-Chelsea boss Conte.
  • The club are reportedly chasing Romelu Lukaku.
  • Marotta confirmed their interest in Edin Dzeko and Nicolo Barella.
  • No agreement is in place with either player as of yet.

Inter finished last season 21-points behind Serie A champions Juventus and Marotta knows that getting the recruitment right this summer will play a big role in the chances of success in the new campaign.

However, he did admit they will still approach the window in ‘a rational way’, with the club only looking for players with the right character.

When asked if the club were interested in Cagliari’s star midfielder, the CEO replied: Barella? We read quotes from two directors that I admire and respect, even if I don’t fully agree with what they said.

“The buyer has the right to establish how much they think a player is worth, this is part of the negotiation process.

“This is a matter of tackling the dynamics of the market, patience is required. We find ourselves dealing with scenarios where it’s like a chess game, where the seller tries to be better than the buyer.”

Barella has been attracting a lot of attention after bursting on to the scene in Sardinia. The Italy international led Cagliari in completed dribbles (42) last season and bagged a goal and three assists in 35 Serie A appearances.

Inter are also chasing Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko and Marotta revealed the player is interested in joining the club.

“Dzeko is one of the players we’re pursuing and he’s given his consent to the move, but this doesn’t mean a lot. We make our moves in a rational way and also respect our parameters. We currently find ourselves at an interim stage.”

The Nerazzurri are also chasing Romelu Lukaku, with the player’s agent revealing earlier in the window that the Italian club are going ‘all out’ to try and sign the Belgium international.

The futures of both Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan are still to be decided but Marotta denied that an Icardi-Dybala swap deal with Juventus was close to fruition.

“At the moment, I can rule out Icardi moving to Juventus because the conditions for him to do so aren’t there,” he said.

“It’s only right to talk about things that could come about, it’s currently something of a utopia to think about a possible swap deal with Dybala.

“He’s an excellent player, but a swap is not something we envisage. We’re sitting at the window and will watch what happens.”

If Inter land their targets, Conte will have some very good options ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
