Inter Milan will be looking to consolidate their place in the Champions League next season when they host Bologna at 4:15pm on Sunday.
Antonio Conte’s side are currently third in Serie A, 16 points clear of fifth-placed Roma with nine games remaining. Should they beat Bologna on Sunday, with Roma facing Napoli, Inter have the potential to all but secure Champions League football for the third consecutive season, their best run of appearances in the competition since 2002-2012.
Standing in their way are 11th-placed Bologna, who may feel as though they have an outside chance of qualifying for the Europa League, five points behind Inter’s rivals AC Milan in seventh. But Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side are in poor form, winning just one of their past six games, which came against relegation-fighting Sampdoria.

Inter Milan & Bologna’s previous line-ups:
- Inter Milan (vs Brescia): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Bastoni; Moses, Barella, Gagliardini, Young; Valero; Sanchez, Martinez.
- Bologna (vs Cagliari): Skorupski; Tomiyasu, Danilo, Bani, Dijks; Soriano, Medel, Schouten; Orsolini, Palacio, Barrow.
Neither side has any fresh absentees following their recent matches, but Romelu Lukaku could return to the starting XI after being rested for most of the 6-0 win over Brescia.
Players to watch:
Inter Milan: Alexis Sanchez. Inter Milan’s 6-0 win over Brescia in midweek was the Sanchez show, with the Chilean scoring once and recording two assists. It was arguably Sanchez’s best performance since joining Inter on loan from Manchester United in January, returning to the league where he first made his name in Europe. The move temporarily ended a tough spell in Manchester for Sanchez, something Inter boss Antonio Conte noticed, saying: “We signed Alexis Sanchez to bring quality to the side. He’s not the same player I witnessed in England but he’s on the right path. He came on against Parma with the right attitude and I saw him work very hard today.”
Bologna: Rodrigo Palacio is still going strong in Serie A at 38, and will be looking to hurt his former side this weekend. The Argentinian, remembered for his ‘rat’s tail’ hairstyle, has been one of Bologna’s key players this season, scoring six goals and adding three assists in Serie A. Only Riccardo Orsolini (eight goals, four assists) has been directly involved in more goals for the club than Palacio this season. In order to hurt his former club, however, Palacio will need to improve his record against Inter. In nine games vs the Nerazzurri Palacio has managed just three goals, two of which came before he joined the club, and one as a Bologna player. Palacio has also unfortunately won just one of those nine games against Inter, but it did come in this fixture last season, 1-0 win for Bologna at the San Siro.
Scoreline prediction: Inter Milan 3-0 Bologna
