Swiatek entered Wimbledon in fantastic winning form, claiming the French Open after a semi-final exit at the Australian Open and is among the favourites to take the crown in West London. One of the biggest stories around Swiatek right now is her winning run, which she has stretched to 37 matches over the tournament, the longest run in women’s tennis in 32 years – since Martina Hingis did the same. However, there is still a long way to go for Swiatek if she wishes to beat the all-time record, currently held by Martina Navratilova who won 74 consecutive matches in 1984.

Entering Wimbledon in the First Round on 35 wins, Swiatek was pit against Jana Fett and made light work of the Croatian, winning 6-0, 6-3. But she was made to work a lot harder in the Second Round, being given something of a fright by Lucky Loser Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove. After taking a close first set, Swiatek dropped the second and showed some signs of vulnerability, just the third set she had lost since March. However, she did come back to take the third, and the match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Looking to end the streak will be World no. 37 Alize Cornet, who is also looking to equal her best run at Wimbledon, previously reaching the Fourth Round in 2014. The Frenchwoman was unseeded for Wimbledon and pit against 27th seed Yulia Putintseva in the First Round, but that didn’t faze Cornet who won 6-3, 7-6 (5).

It was a similar tale in the Second Round against American Claire Liu, with Alize Cornet winning 6-3, 6-3 to set up this interesting encounter. But will her Wimbledon journey end before the Fourth Round once again?

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets
