World No.1 Iga Swiatek will be hoping to overcome a potentially tricky test to reach the semi-finals of the French Open as she continues the defence of her crown. The Polish superstar romped to victory at Roland Garros last year, beating one Coco Gauff in straight sets in the final. That win came as part of a wonderful winning run for Swiatek has she cemented her spot as the best women’s tennis player in the world, by quite some distance.

Although Swiatek is yet to win a major title this year, she remains at the very top of women’s tennis and has reached the final of the Dubai Open and Madrid Open, albeit ending those tournaments in defeats. It’s been an easy run for Swiatek at Roland Garros so far with three straight-set victories, including a double-bagel win over Xin Wang, before Lesia Tsurenko retired at 5-1 down in the first set of their fourth round tie.

So, can Gauff get her revenge on Swiatek for last year’s final defeat? That was the first time Gauff had reached the final of a major singles tournament and she is yet to make her return, with the American’s best finish since Roland Garros being a run to the semi-finals of the Dubai Open where she was beaten in straight sets by, you guessed it, Swiatek.

Reaching as high as fourth in the world last October, Gauff is currently No.6 and the sixth seed for the French Open – with just two of the five players above her left in the tournament, including Swiatek. Gauff has had a bit of a mixture when it comes to her wins at the French Open this year, having to come from a set down to beat Rebeka Masarova and Mirra Andreeva, while beating Julia Grabher and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek in straight sets
