How Mohamed Salah has rewritten Premier League history as Liverpool star signs new three-year contract
Mohamed Salah has signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool.
The Friday announcement curbs fears the Reds’ record-breaking forward would leave on a free next summer, having already lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich this summer.
Salah, who turned 30 in June, said: “I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone.
“It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next.”
Salah is the current holder of the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award, which he has won twice along with the FWA Footballer of the Year (also twice) and Premier League Player of the Year.
The news was preceded by a “cryptic” tweet from Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, that prompted frustration from Jamie Carragher and other Liverpool fans, a reflection of the various twists and turns Reds have witnessed during the long-running saga.
All Reds love your client, and if he is to leave next summer we will wish him well & say a big thank you. But we can do without this cryptic crap for the next 12 months! @MoSalah have a word!! https://t.co/XFyu84vC0V

In his first season at Liverpool, Salah set a new record for the most goals scored in a single 38-game Premier League season (32). This will most likely form the bedrock of whatever Premier League legacy Salah leaves behind, but it is not the only way in which his goalscoring ability has altered the competition’s (and Liverpool’s) record books.
