Ander Herrera to PSG? Man Utd’s top tackler won’t “close any doors”
Ander Herrera has fuelled rumours of a Manchester United exit, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
The United hierarchy have been unable to negotiate fresh terms with Herrera’s representatives and are in serious danger of losing the Spaniard on a free transfer in the summer.
Could Herrera leave United? Five key things to know…
- Herrera joined Man Utd from Athletic Bilbao in 2014 and he has since made 187 appearances for the club.
- The midfielder’s contract is set to expire in June and he is yet to pen a new deal.
- Negotiations have been ongoing throughout the campaign but a breakthrough is yet to materialise.
- As such the Spaniard has been linked to a host of clubs, with PSG reportedly favourites to secure his signature.
- The 29-year-old has now added to rumours of a United exit after stating: “I won’t close any doors.”

The likes of PSG, Arsenal, Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan have all been heavily linked with a move for the Bilbao-born midfielder, who has made more tackles per 90 minutes (3.52) in the Premier League this season than any Man Utd teammate to have played over 90 minutes. As yet, though, his future is undecided.
United are seemingly reluctant to lose Herrera on a free and have been trying to agree a new deal, but the Spain international has now thrown those negotiations into serious doubt after saying he will “listen” to offers from other clubs.
Speaking before Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, Herrera told Diario ABC: “What I want is to beat Barcelona and think about football.
“It’s true that I only have two months left on my contract and as it is right now, Manchester and I are not thinking alike and there is no renewal agreement.
“But my duty is still to continue to listen to United. What it’s clear to me is that I will continue playing for a big team. I take care of myself for that reason.
“I feel well and I want to continue in football for as long as my body allows me to, because the day I retire I will begin to regret to have hung up my boots.
“I will listen to United, of course, but also to other clubs. I don’t close any doors.”

“Pogba would be a great signing for Real Madrid”
Another United player potentially set for a summer exit is Paul Pogba, who is rumoured to be in Real Madrid’s crosshairs with the club set for a summer overhaul following a tumultuous season.
Pogba sparked the speculation last month after admitting “Real Madrid is a dream for anyone” while also heaping praise on Zinedine Zidane by explaining that “anybody who likes football” would “dream” about playing under his guidance.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since responded to his star midfielder’s comments, believing Pogba will still be a United player next season, but Herrera thinks his teammate would be an excellent addition to Los Blancos despite wanting him to remain at Old Trafford.
“Pogba would be a great reinforcement for Madrid and any team in the universe, but I hope he continues at United,” he said.
“He is a midfielder who has all the qualities. He heads well, can strike with both feet. He is quick, powerful, helps at the defensive end, he can go one-on-one, he provides assists and scores.”
