Hashtag United are undoubtedly one of the more interesting stories across British football since their founding in 2016 by YouTube personality, Spencer Owen.

From playing exhibition games, the Tilbury-based club are now semi-professional having recently joined the Essex Senior League after being promoted from Eastern Counties League Division One South.

Naturally, there are grand ambitions to eventually become a professional league outfit, but Rome – as they often say – wasn’t built in a day. Owen, who serves as their chairman, and manager Jay Devereux feel those plans must now be set in motion.

After their opening nine matches this season, Hashtag United sit top of the league table having won eight of those outings, with their sole defeat coming at the hands of Southend Manor (0-2), which just so happened to be on the opening week.

If they secure a second consecutive promotion, Hashtag United will play in the Isthmian League Division One North, which is in the eighth level of the English football league system.
