Haiti vs Canada build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
After failing to qualify in 2017, Haiti managed to reach the semi-finals of this tournament in its previous edition in 2019 — the first time they’ve gone beyond the quarter-finals since 1977, when they lost in one of three consecutive final appearances. Against the United States in their opening match, Les Grenadiers proved they’re no pushovers, holding Gregg Berhalter’s men to a 1-0 scoreline and allowing just five shots on target.
Despite being without Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, Canada still have a wealth of attacking talent at this tournament and it was on full display as John Herdman’s side put Martinique to the sword 4-1. Canada haven’t won Gold Cup since 2000 and haven’t even gone beyond the quarter-final stage since 2007 but will feel confident of causing a threat this time with an exciting new generation of players coming through.
- Haiti (vs USA): Sylvestre; Arcus, Ade, Lafrance, Experience; Alceus, Pierre; Lambese, Etienne, Nazon; Antoine.
- Canada (vs Martinique): Crepeau; Johnston, Vitoria, Miller; Laryea, Osorio, Kaye, Eustaquio, Buchanan; Hoilett, Larin.
Haiti could welcome back Frantzdy Pierrot, Louicius Don Deedson, Steeven Saba, Jems Geffrard, Stephane Lambese and Isaac Rouaud for this one after all five sat out the loss to USA on the opening game.
Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David will miss the entire tournament through injury, as well defender Scott Kennedy, but Canada have no new fitness problems after their first match.

Player to watch: Cyle Larin (Canada)
With two of Canada’s biggest attacking talents absent, the goalscoring burden at Gold Cup will be placed squarely upon Cyle Larin. The 26-year-old enjoyed a fine season at club level in 2020/21, netting 23 goals across all competitions as Besiktas sealed a domestic double.
Thus far, Larin has responded well to the pressure of spearheading Herdman’s side, scoring a 16th-minute equaliser as Canada came from 1-0 down to beat Martinique 4-1 in their opening match. That takes the former Orlando City man to 16 goals in 38 international caps and eight since the start of this year alone.
The Haitian defence will do well to keep him quiet for the full 90 minutes.
