Benfica will look to end a disappointing Primeira Liga season in style when they travel to Vitoria Guimaraes on Wednesday at 8pm (UK time).

The Eagles are assured of a third-place finish, sitting four points adrift of Porto above them and 10 clear of Braga in fourth. Vitoria, meanwhile, will look to seal a sixth-placed finish with a positive result here.

Guimaraes vs Benfica build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Going into the final day of the season, Vitoria will have European football on their mind in sixth. As things stand Os Vimaranenses are ahead of Santa Clara thanks to their superior head-to-head record and on their way to the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League. Vitoria only need to match Santa Clara’s result on Wednesday but victory here will confirm their spot regardless. Bino’s side have already taken on point from Benfica this season, so will be confident of causing an upset.

Vitoria’s cause will be helped by the fact that Benfica have a Taca de Portugal final clash with Braga to prepare for on Sunday. Jorge Jesus’ men are confirmed in third place in the Primeira Liga table, sealing their spot in next season’s Champions League qualifiers. And although they head into this match fresh from ending rivals Sporting’s hopes of achieving an invincible season, there’s no doubting their focus will be on picking up a piece of silverware this Sunday.

  • Guimaraes (vs Maritimo): Varela; Fernandes, Amaro, Mumin; Sacko, Almeida, Pepelu, Mensah; Edwards, Duarte, Rochinha.
  • Benfica (vs Sporting CP): Leite; Verissimo, Otamendi, Vertonghen; Goncalves, Taarabt*, Weigl, Grimaldo; Pizzi, Seferovic, Everton.

Joseph Amoah and Mikel Agu are both sidelined for the hosts, but Ricardo Quaresma should be fit to return for the final game of the season.

Benfica, meanwhile, will be without Andreas Samaris, Andrea Almeida and Joao Ferreira through injury. Rafa and Adel Taarabt are both fitness doubts and may not be risked ahead of Sunday’s cup final.

Player to watch: Haris Seferovic (Benfica)

While the main team focus will be on Sunday’s cup final, Benfica striker Haris Seferovic heads into this match with a Golden Boot still on the line.

The Switzerland international scored a brace during the 4-3 win over Sporting last time out to take him to 20 goals for the season, level with Pedro Goncalves at the top of the standings with just one game to go.

Seferovic will be mindful of the cup final, but there’s no doubting he’ll be out for goals here to bring home a prestigious individual award.
