Guadeloupe vs Jamaica build-up & previous line-ups
After missing four consecutive Gold Cup editions Guadeloupe returned this summer. In two of their previous three tournament appearances Les Gwada Boys reached at least the quarter-final phase. However things didn’t get off to the best start for Jocelyn Angloma’s men after they suffered a 3-1 loss against Costa Rica which subsequently leaves them behind the early Group C pacesetters.
Two-time finalist Jamaica are looking to keep up their strong Gold Cup record of late. The Reggae Boyz finished runners-up to Mexico (2015) and United States respectively before suffering a semi-final elimination last time out. Theodore Whitmore couldn’t have asked for a better start when his side ran out 2-0 winners over Suriname on matchday one with Fulham forward Bobby Decordova-Reid finding himself on the scoresheet.
- Guadeloupe (vs Costa Rica): Thuram; Alphonse, Solvet, Baron, Casimir, Irep; Malpon, Saint-Maximin, Annerose; Mirval, Phaeton.
- Jamaica (vs Suriname): Blake; Powell, Lowe, Moore, Bell; Bailey, Johnson, Hector, Turgott; Reid, Nicholson.

Player to watch: Leon Bailey (Jamaica)
Jamaica’s opening 2021 Gold Cup match against Suriname was only Leon Bailey’s ninth international cap since making his debut two summers ago. The majority of Bailey’s appearances have come in a competitive setting though he’s yet to bring his club form into this arena. Having only previously netted once for the Reggae Boyz many felt he’d add to his tally against tournament debutants Suriname but the 23-year-old played 83 minutes without making a single contribution. He’s expected to line up against Guadeloupe which presents Bailey another opportunity to make an impact at this level.
