Inter Milan will look to end a two-game winless run when they travel to relegation-threatened Genoa on Saturday evening in Serie A.
Antonio Conte’s side have lost ground in the race for second place, with the Nerazzurri drawing their previous two games, allowing Atalanta to move ahead by just the single point with three matches remaining.
For Genoa the task is slightly more ominous, with Davide Nicola’s men just four points above the bottom three and with some big games (including this one) coming up. Defeat to Inter could allow 18th-placed Lecce to close the gap.

Genoa & Inter Milan’s previous line-ups:
- Genoa (vs Sampdoria): Perin; Biraschi, Romero, Masiello, Criscito, Lerager*, Schone, Jegiello, Falque, Pandev, Pinamonti.
- Inter Milan (vs Fiorentina): Handanovic, D’Ambrosio, De Vrij*, Godin, Candreva, Barella*, Gagliardini, Young, Eriksen, Lukaku, Sanchez.
A yellow card picked up in the goalless stalemate to Fiorentina means Nicolo Barella is suspended for this match, while Stefan de Vrij is also major doubt after coming off injured in the first half at the San Siro. Andrea Ranocchia, who replaced him, will likely deputise in his absence.
Lukas Lerager, who scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Sampdoria last time out, picked up a booking of his own and will sit this one out through suspension. Juventus loanee Cristian Romero is also a doubt for this match, meaning Edoardo Goldaniga will likely make the starting XI instead.
Players to watch:
Genoa: In a game of such nail-biting anticipation, the Griffin will need a few cool heads on the park to settle the nerves and go toe-to-toe with Conte’s well-oiled machine. Luckily for Genoa they don’t come more composed and experienced than Lasse Schone, who certainly knows a thing or two about pulling off a giantkilling. Just ask the fans over at Ajax. The Dane’s tenacious exploits went somewhat under the radar last season as the youngsters took took centre stage in Amsterdam. But, that Champions League semi-final run would not have been possible without the 34-year-old’s tireless running and threat in the final third. Genoa could use some of that industry this weekend.
Inter Milan: From one 34-year-old to another. With Inter unlikely to see De Vrij this weekend that could mean another start for Diego Godin. It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Uruguayan this season after his summer move from Atletico Madrid, and there has been fervent talk of a move away when the window reopens, but he stepped into the equation against Fiorentina last time out and kept a clean sheet. While those up-top flattered to deceive in firing a blank, Godin and Co. performed their duties diligently at the back to keep Fiorentina at bay. Conte will be hoping for more of the same on Saturday.
