Football is a serious business – fans hate failure and want to do everything in their power to avoid becoming figures of ridicule.

However, that means rival supporters have no qualms about putting the boot in, rubbing salt into the wound and having a good old giggle at another club’s expense when things do not go to plan.

That’s right – the sport has become a meme maker’s playground.

Any opportunity to claim the upper hand is seized upon, which tends to produce some pretty hilarious results.

But it’s not just fans who enjoy getting in on the act. Pundits and players are also not adverse to digging out their rivals and doing their best troll impressions.
