Fortuna Dusseldorf and Schalke 04 will go in search of much-needed wins when they clash at Merkur Spiel-Arena on Wednesday.
Although they are now five unbeaten in the Bundesliga, Dusseldorf have drawn their last four games and threw away a 2-0 lead in the final minutes against FC Koln last time out.
Despite not being in the relegation scrap Dusseldorf find themselves, Schalke have been in even worse form, going nine games without a win in the Bundesliga and scoring just two goals during that time. As a result, they’ve slipped to mid-table having been well in the hunt for a Champions League place.
Can Dusseldorf take a step away from the relegation zone or will Schalke re-ignite their quest for European football?

Fortuna Dusseldorf & Schalke 04’s previous line-ups:
Fortuna Dusseldorf (vs FC Koln): Kastenmeier; Zimmermann, Zanka, Hoffmann, Gießelmann; Morales, Bodzek, Stoger; Skrzybski, Karaman, Thommy.
Schalke 04 (vs Augsburg): Schubert; Kenny, Sane, Nastasic, Oczipka; McKennie, Serdar; Caligiuri, Schopf, Matondo; Gregoritsch.
Players to watch:
Fortuna Dusseldorf: If Dusseldorf are to get back to winning ways and, in turn, pull themselves away from the relegation zone, they need to start finding the net more consistently, having scored the joint-lowest number of goals (29) in the Bundesliga this season. Rouwen Hennings is their top scorer with 11 goals but behind him, wideman Erik Thommy has contributed six goals and four assists so far. He scored last time out against Koln and his threat and creativity will once again be crucial here.
Schalke 04: As we saw against both Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg, Schalke make it far too easy for opponents to play through their lines, meaning their defence is exposed far too frequently. Sure, if they’re to stop the current rot, they absolutely need to improve in the final third, but they also need become harder to play against, and much of that responsibility will fall to USA international Weston McKennie. Much is expected of the 21-year-old and he was certainly kept busy against Augsburg last time out, making the most tackles (7) and joint-most interceptions (2) among Schalke players.
