Over two months after the draw was first made, the third round of the 2022/23 EFL Cup is among us and Wolves vs Leeds is one of a number of all-Premier League ties. Wolves secured their spot in the third round of the EFL Cup by beating Championship side Preston North End 2-1 in what was their first win of the season. The victory started a four-match unbeaten run across all competitions which was ended in defeat to Manchester City, which started Wolves on a downward spiral. Wolves go into this game with just one win from their past eight matches, with six defeats and one draw – a run which also saw Bruno Lage sacked, with Julen Lopetegui taking charge once the Premier League has reached its World Cup break.

Leeds, meanwhile, beat Barnsley 3-1 in the second round as part of their own four-game unbeaten start which also included a 2-1 win over Wolves on the Premier League’s opening weekend. However, that victory against Barnsley was followed by an eight-match winless streak including five defeats. Unlike Wolves, Leeds stuck with their manager and for now it appears to be working, with Jesse Marsch leading the side to two consecutive wins over Liverpool and then Bournemouth, lifting them up the Premier League table.

Wolves vs Leeds: Match Stats

Rodrigo is in excellent goalscoring form for Leeds right now and will be looking to continue that against a Wolves side struggling defensively. The Spaniard has scored in each of his past three Leeds games, opening the scoring against Fulham, Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Leeds will take momentum into the game thanks to their late wins over Liverpool and Bournemouth, but that doesn’t mean they are invincible. Marsch’s side haven’t kept a clean sheet in their past six matches and have managed just two all season (against Aston Villa and Chelsea).

Wolves vs Leeds: Team news

Diego Costa is still serving a suspension for his red card against Brentford, and isn’t the only Wolves player with an enforced absence, with Nelson Semedo joining him after his red card vs Brighton. Also absent, this time through injury, are Chiquinho, Raul Jimenez, Sasa Kalajdzic and Pedro Neto, while Wednesday may come too soon for Matheus Nunes’ return. Toti Gomes could be in contention but faces a late fitness test.

Archie Gray could return from injury for Leeds but may not be risked in this fixture, while Patrick Bamford could be a possibility at the weekend but not at Molineux. Adam Forshaw, Luis Sinisterra and Stuart Dallas remain unavailable.
