Focus for Istanbul’s insulated ‘Big Three‘ will always be centred on the Super Lig, but last season produced a rare sight, as Trabzonspor, the first side to win the title, ended their 34-year wait to lift the famous trophy once more, finishing eight points clear of Fenerbahce to win the league for the 7th time in their history.

This season however, they have struggled to have the same impact and currently sit in 5th, 10 points behind current leaders Galatasary, who themselves have opened a four point gap on their closest rivals Fenerbahce in second, with Istanbul Basaksehir and Besiktas making up the top four. The leaders are currently on a nine game winning run in the league and currently look unstoppable at the top of the table.

At the other end of the league, Umraniyespor sit bottom having picked up just three wins in their 19 matches so far this term. They are joined in the relegation places by Istanbulspor, Hatayspor and Sivasspor, with Istanbulspor already boasting an unwanted goal difference of -22.
