After ending their three game losing run with a 3-3 draw away at champions Manchester City on Sunday thanks to a 90th minute equaliser from Dejan Kulusevski, Spurs will be hoping to get back to winning ways against London rivals West Ham this evening. Ange Postecoglou’s side’s unbeaten start came crashing down with three consecutive defeats to Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa, but a much improved second half performance at the Etihad will boost his side’s confidence of finishing in the top four this season, despite a host of big name players still on the injury list.
A victory here would see Spurs move level on points with Man City in fourth, against a West Ham side that have lost three of their last four away trips to North London since becoming the first visiting team to win a Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April 2019, and nine of their last 10 away London derbies in the Premier League.
David Moyes’ side go into this game in ninth, having re-found their form with two wins and a draw after three straight defeats to Aston Villa, Everton and Brentford. The Hammers have had a mixed campaign on the road, picking up three wins, suffering three defeats and a draw, with a 2-1 win against Burnley last time out ending a run of three consecutive away defeats. The Irons have found the back of the net at least once in each of their last eight on the road in the league, but have also failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 11 Premier League matches on the road.
This will be the first time that David Moyes comes up against Ane Postecoglou in the Premier League and the Scot has been singing his praises.
“I’m a bit surprised that everybody else was surprised after how well he did at Celtic,” Moyes said.
“For anyone who follows it, to manage Celtic Football Club is enormous, the pressure and what comes with the job. Ange was able to cope and deal with it.“I met Ange in Australia when I was manager of Manchester United, played against them and kept my eye on him. I wouldn’t say I have got to know him but the success he had at Celtic was terrific, and the way he made them play, and he is doing a really good job at Tottenham.”
Adding “We’re fully aware of that but they are very aggressive in their press, play high up with lots of speed. There are a lot of things in the game we’ll have to cope with, they’re as good as any side in England”.
