Cristian Romero missed the draw with Brentford having returned late from the World Cup, owing to celebrations after winning the tournament with Argentina. However, Sunday’s game against Aston Villa was earmarked as the potential return match for the centre-back – while Rodrigo Bentacur is also in contention following injury.
Djed Spence may also be available for selection but he hasn’t found favour with Antonio Conte this season, while Richarlison and Lucas are both injured.

Romero’s compatriot Emiliano Martinez may also be back for this game, which would be a welcome return for Aston Villa between the sticks. While Robin Olsen did not disgrace himself against Liverpool, Martinez has confidence and momentum on his side, and will no doubt be looking to continue his success at club level.
However, Aston Villa remain without Diego Carlos and Jacob Ramsey, though the latter shouldn’t be out for much longer.
