Portuguese League Cup live streams: How to watch the 2022/23 season online
The 2022/23 Portuguese League Cup is well underway with teams from the top two tiers searching for glory.
Sporting CP are the defending champions of the Portuguese League Cup, known colloquially as the Taca da Liga, beating Benfica in last season’s final. But this season it is a lot different.
For the first time all 34 teams from the top two professional tiers of Portuguese football are split into eight groups, six consisting of four teams and two of five. Each team in a group will play each other just once, with the top team going through to the quarter-finals.
The draw for the knockout stages is predetermined too, as we come to know at major international tournaments. The group stage of the 2022/23 Portuguese League Cup takes place during the 2022 World Cup, with the quarter-finals coming just after the tournament has ended – a very quick turnaround from group stage to knockout.
There is then a month break before the semi-finals, though the final is just a few days later. We are already pretty much done with the group stages, with three more teams to be confirmed across the next few days. Defending champions Sporting CP have already confirmed their spot in the quarter-finals alongside Braga, as have Porto, but Benfica still need to qualify.
