Sporting team news

Only two players are missing for Sporting this weekend with Daniel Bragança and Jovane Cabral sitting out for respective injuries.

Following their wins over Estoril, which ended a two-game Primeira Liga losing streak, and Frankfurt in the Champions League, head coach Ruben Amorim could be tempted to make a few changes. Nuno Santos in particular is pushing for a start after coming off the bench to score at Deutsche Bank Park earlier this week.

Pedro Gonçalves, though, should feature. The 24-year-old forward is Sporting’s leading scorer with three goals, which is tied for third highest among the league’s top scorers this season, two of which have been the first of the match.

Portimonense team news

Heading into Portugal’s capital on matchday six Portimonense travel without attacking midfielder Carlinhos who is nursing an injury. He is joined on the sidelines by Mohamed Diaby, Anderson Oliveira and Adewale Sapara. Paulo Sérgio, who’s seeking a fifth straight league win, is expected to make few changes from last time out.

Welinton Junior and Yago Cariello, who have each netted twice, are Portimonense’s leading marksmen. Junior is expected to start on the left flank while Cariello missed their last outing at Famalicão — which saw them run out 1-0 winners leaving them in fourth place and three points behind leaders Benfica — and it remains to be seen whether he features this weekend.

Scoreline prediction: Sporting 1-0 Portimonense
