South Korea team news

Goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo has had to pull out of the South Korea squad due to injury, meaning Kim Dong-jun and Song Bum-keun with one cap each will play backup to first-choice Kim Seung-gyu. Lee Yong, Jung Seung-hyun, Park Min-gyu and Ko Seung-beom have all dropped out from the squad that played four friendlies in June.

Son Heung-min is of course the talisman of this South Korea side and will be hoping to add to his 33 goals, currently joint-fourth on the nation’s all-time top goalscorer list.

Costa Rica team news

There will be a big name missing for Costa Rica this month with Keylor Navas not picked for the squad. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has not featured for Christophe Galtier’s team this season and this will come as a blow with the World Cup coming up. Also dropping out from the squad which secured Costa Rica’s spot at the World Cup are Leonel Moreira, Ricardo Blanco, Ian Lawrence, Juan Luis Perez, Yeltsin Tejeda and Allen Guevara.

Celso Borges and Bryan Ruiz are both in the squad, however, and will be looking to extend their lead as the first- and second-most capped players in Costa Rica history. Borges currently leads the way on 153 caps, nine ahead of Ruiz, with Joel Campbell the closest active player down in fifth on the list (117 caps).

Scoreline prediction: South Korea 2-1 Costa Rica
