Shakhtar Donetsk team news

Just one player is missing for Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Igor Jovicevic this week. Viktor Kornienko is a long-term absence. The 23-year-old left-back is recovering from a serious knee injury and should return early next year. There shouldn’t be too many changes from the side which ran out 1-4 winners at RB Leipzig last time out. Among those expected to feature is Marian Shved who netted twice on his Champions League debut.

Expected to play a key role from the flanks is Mykhailo Mudryk, the forward was one of three players to be directly involved in three goals on matchday one (two assists and one goal), along with Robert Lewandowski and Piotr Zielinski. Aged 21 years and 244 days, he was also the youngest Shakhtar player to be directly involved in as many as three goals in a Champions League game since Douglas Costa in September 2010 (20y 14d against Braga).

Celtic team news

It was a frustrating return to Champions League group stage action for Celtic who conceded three goals against defending champions Real Madrid without replying. Heading into the second round of fixtures there are no major absentees with manager Ange Postecoglou expected to make some changes.

Under threat is Georgios Giakoumakis, the Greek forward started against Los Blancos before coming off in the 72nd minute, he’s still looking to score his first goal in major European competition (excluding qualifiers), having featured 12 times between his time at AEK Athens and the Bhoys without finding the net (six games in the UEFA Europa League, four in the UEFA Champions League and two in the UEFA Conference League).

Scoreline prediction: Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 Celtic
