Borussia Dortmund had a good start to their Champions League campaign this season, beating FC Copenhagen 3-0 in their opening match in what is a pretty evenly matched group outside the favourites. And Manchester City were Dortmund’s opponents in their next game, with the English side coming from a goal down to win 2-1 at the Etihad. Nevertheless, Dortmund are still second in Group G and will be hoping to bounce back from defeat in the Bundesliga at the weekend.
It’s been a season to forget for Sevilla domestically and in the Champions League. Julen Lopetegui’s side are currently 17th in La Liga after seven matches, only one point above the relegation zone with one win. They are winless in the Champions League, being thrashed 4-0 by Man City in their opening match before a goalless draw with FC Copenhagen. These two matches are crucial for Sevilla, who must take advantage of FC Copenhagen facing Man City twice.
Sevilla vs Borussia Dortmund: Match Stats
Sevilla are goalless in their two Champions League games so far this season and it stretches back to last year’s competition too, with the Spanish side’s most recent goal in this competition coming against Wolfsburg in November 2021.
Dortmund were slightly unfortunate not to get at least a point against Man City last time out, seriously frustrating their opponents. Jude Bellingham got the opening goal for Dortmund then, having also found the net against Copenhagen, and he is now looking to becoming the first midfielder to score in three consecutive Champions League appearances as a teenager.
Sevilla vs Borussia Dortmund: Team news
Sevilla remain without Jesus Corona who broke his leg after just appearance for the side and is not expected to return until the New Year. Also on the sidelines for the hosts are Karim Rekik and Marcao, with Marcos Acuna is a doubt. Oliver Torres is unavailable having not been registered for Sevilla’s Champions League squad.
Dortmund, meanwhile, have a host of injury issues with no fewer than seven players absent for the trip to Spain. Sebastien Haller, of course, remains out as he battles testicular cancer, while Mats Hummels and Marius Wolf are both ill. Gio Reyna is still suffering from a muscular injury picked up while on international duty, with Marco Reus, Mamoud Dahoud, Mateu Morey and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens also out injured. First-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel could be available after travelling with the squad following injury.
