Although the semi-finals of the 2023/24 Taca de Portugal start on Thursday, there is still one quarter-final to be finished. This game kicked off on 7th February and made it to the 27th minute before having to be suspended due to the pitch flooding. So, this game will resume from the 27th minute, with the winner scheduled to play Vitoria Guimaraes in the semi-finals.

Porto are the Taca de Portugal holders and are looking to win the competition for the third consecutive season, having also lifted the trophy in 2021/22. Should they go all the way, it would also be Porto’s 20th Taca de Portugal, becoming just the second club to reach that milestone, closing the gap on Benfica’s 26. Porto joined this season’s Taca de Portugal in the third round with the rest of the Primeira Liga teams, beating fourth-tier side GD Vilar de Perdizes and then CDC Montalegre to reach the fifth round. There, they faced fellow Primeira Liga side Estoril Praia, but the holders were comfortable in their 4-0 win.

Santa Clara, meanwhile, are the last remaining team from outside the top-flight still in the Taca de Portugal — as Uniao de Leiria were knocked out of the quarter-finals by Sporting CP when the round was first played. Relegated from the Primeira Liga last season, Santa Clara are in the quarter-finals of the Taca de Portugal for just the second time in their history, also making it this far in 2020/21. Last season they were beaten in the third round by second-tier Tondela. As a second-tier side themselves now, Santa Clara entered this year’s cup in the second round and have beaten GD Ribeirao, SC Vianense, O Elvas and Nacional to reach this stage, needing penalties to beat the latter.

Scoreline prediction: Santa Clara 0-2 Porto
