Reading and Watford meet for a place in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday at 12:30pm (UK time).

The hosts head into the match without a win in their last two, though they have been far more competitive over recent weeks. Watford, meanwhile, bounced back from consecutive defeats to Millwall (2-0) and Swansea (4-0) by beating Norwich City 1-0 on Monday.

Reading team news

Veteran defender Scott Dann returned to play 90 minutes earlier this week but it remains to be seen whether he’s fit enough to repeat the feat on Saturday. Paul Ince is set to rotate to keep his side fresh with Reading still only three points adrift of the promotion playoff places, despite sitting 13th in the table.

Watford team news

Christian Kabasele, Samuel Kalu and Keinan Davis all picked up injuries against Norwich meaning they’ll miss this weekend’s FA Cup clash.

Like Reading, Watford’s focus will be on Championship affairs as the Hornets currently occupy fourth place, so expect the likes of Ben Hamer and Matthew Pollock to come into a rotated team.

Scoreline prediction: Reading 1-2 Watford

Neither of these sides have gone beyond the FA Cup third round over the past couple of years, so something has to give here.

Through a mixture of injuries and needing to stay fresh for a promotion push, both teams should rotate their starting line-ups. Given their superior depth, that plays right into Watford’s hands, so the Hornets are likely to edge it.
