FC Porto vs Boavista build-up & previous line-ups:

In their quest to win a 30th championship Porto have started this Primeira Liga season on a strong note. Sérgio Conceição’s men are unbeaten across their opening nine matches subsequently winning seven times and registering 21 goals which makes Porto the league’s top scorers. The Dragons also come into Saturday’s clash with Boavista having won their last four on the bounce. Since a 2-3 loss to Marítimo in October 2020 they’ve played 19 times at Estádio do Dragão with 16 of those contents (including last 10 on the bounce) ending in a Porto victory. Across this stretch only Benfica (1-1), Boavista (2-2) and Sporting (0-0) have denied them all three points.

Speaking of that Boavista draw, Jesualdo Ferreira’s side were cruising towards victory in February 2021 having led 0-2 at half-time, before their hosts mounted a second half comeback to share the spoils. The result means you have to go back to November 2004 for the last time a Os Axadrezados team left Porto with victory (0-1). That success was only the club’s second across 47 previous trips. As for this current incarnation they currently lie in eighth place after winning two of their opening nine league matches. João Pedro Sousa’s men, though, are unbeaten in three (albeit picking up just three points from nine available) heading into this weekend Boavista’s last success came on matchday three meaning they’re currently on a six-game winless streak (five draws and one defeat).

Player to watch: Mehdi Taremi (Porto)

Last season only Haris Seferovic (220 and Pedro Gonçalves (23) outscored Porto marksman Mehdi Taremi (16) who has started this season on fire. The 29-year-old Iranian striker has amassed seven goals across nine league appearances coming into this weekend. An ever-present under Sérgio Conceição, only missing 27 minutes of action so far, Taremi netted a hat-trick against Tondela last time out which proved to be his first treble for the Dragons in Portugal’s top division. He also heads into this meeting with Boavista having registered three goals across Porto’s last two home league games. His record against The Chequered ones is pretty decent having scored four goals past them in four previous Primeira Liga meetings.
