Sergio Conceicao has lost two key men this summer in Vitinha and Fabio Vieira (not to mention his son, Francisco, who recently signed for Ajax). But the Porto boss will feel confident heading into the season, signing some star quality of his own, as the Dragoes look to win successive Portuguese top-flight titles for the first time since between 2012 and 2013.

Porto team news

Conceicao has no major injury concerns heading into the new season and fans will be itching to see the new recruits in action, though Wilson Manafa, Evanilson and Marko Grujic are out. David Carmo has joined from Braga, becoming the most expensive transfer between Portuguese clubs, and the 6ft 4in centre-back could be drafted in to partner Pepe this weekend.

Teenage Brazilian superstar Gabriel Veron came on for a cameo in Porto’s 3-0 Supertaca Candido de Oliveira win over Tondela last Saturday, and Conceicao may be tempted to see what he can do this weekend.

Maritimo team news

Pablo Moreno was once tipped to reach the very pinnacle of the sport, and at only 20 years of age, time is very much on the Spaniard’s side. A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia, Moreno moved to Juventus in 2018 and then Manchester City got their hands on him in 2020 to boost his impressive CV. He has now joined Maritimo, looking to get some much-needed game time and kickstart his career.

Scoreline prediction: Porto 3-0 Maritimo
