Nottingham Forest continue their fight against relegation from the Premier League when they host Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday.

Back in the top flight for the first time in a long while, Forest are currently in danger of returning to the Championship immediately, with an uphill battle to fit in the final weeks of the season. The Reds are in the relegation zone with six games left to play and in poor form, though they are just one point from safety as things stand. Brighton, on the other hand, are still chasing European football while also nursing the heartbreak of losing on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final.

Nottingham Forest vs Brighton pre-match analysis

A battle at both ends of the table, Brighton will be playing catch-up on the teams above them in the Premier League with as many as three games in hand as they look to secure a spot in Europe. The Seagulls are currently eighth, just four points behind fifth-placed Tottenham having played three fewer matches, while sixth-placed Aston Villa are just two points away also having played three more. But Brighton are also entering the game on a bit of a low, losing to Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final with Solly March missing the decisive spot-kick.

The defeat was costly in more ways than one too, as Danny Welbeck suffered a knee injury, while second-half substitute Joel Veltman is also nursing a hamstring problem. And Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Facundo Buonanotte will make his first Premier League start at the City Ground.

“We will be able to change, but the decision is still difficult because the level is not the same across the pitch,” De Zerbi told reporters.

“Facundo Buonanotte will play from the first minute, I give you this news, so you’re happy. I am trying to understand the right moment to put the right player on the pitch, because sometimes it’s better to wait, sometimes you have a doubt and to understand before, the difficulty of my work is to decide.”

But Brighton’s injury list is no match for Forest, who currently have 10 players unavailable including Cheikhou Kouyate and Serge Aurier, though the pair are close to returning to training.
