Eddie Howe will be looking to help Newcastle to the EFL Cup quarter-finals for just the second time in the last six seasons — but to get there, they will need to beat the side he guided from League Two to the Premier League in Bournemouth. The Toon Army are currently on an 11-game unbeaten run across all competitions, including a 3-2 penalty shootout win over fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace in the last round.
After a successful 12 matches as interim head coach, Gary O’Neill was appointed as the new Bournemouth manager at the end of November and this will be his first official game in charge of the club. The Cherries currently sit 14th in the Premier League and will be looking to make it to the quarter-final stage of the EFL Cup for the first time since 2018/19 when they were knocked out by Chelsea.
