Luciano Spalletti’s men are unbeaten in all competitions this season and look like genuine world-beaters, already stunning Europe with that 4-0 demolition over Liverpool, while they also lead the Serie A title charge after 11 games. Rangers meanwhile are floundering in Europe with four defeats on the bounce, and can now only finish as high as third, which will certainly be their aim as they look to secure at least Europa League football.

Amir Rrahmani’s recent thigh injury is set to keep him out of action until after the World Cup, with the Kosovo international earmarked for a return in the New Year. His absence will likely see Juan Jesus continue to deputise in a centre-back partnership with defensive revelation Kim Min-jae. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has missed the last two matches with a thigh issue of his own, but the former Fulham midfielder is back in training and could make the matchday squad. Whether he starts, though, is another matter. Finally, back-up ‘keeper Salvatore Sirigu is struggling with muscle fatigue and missed the weekend’s win over Roma altogether. He is touch-and-go to make Wednesday’s squad.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains without several key stars, with Ianis Hagi, Tom Lawrence and Glen Kamara making up an important trident on his casualty list. Ryan Jack is also out of contention. As are defenders John Souttar, Connor Goldson and Filip Helander. As such, Ben Davies and 18-year-old Leon King are set to partner one another, which is certainly not ideal against the Champions League’s most in-form and potent team of 2022/23.
