Napoli v Lazio takes place on Friday at 7:45pm (UK time).
Luciano Spalletti’s side are 18 points clear at the top of the Serie A table and it feels as though every game is just there to take them a step closer to the title. Napoli go into this game on an eight-game winning streak since their only league defeat of the season to Inter Milan, and have dropped points in just three of their 24 matches so far.
Lazio, meanwhile, are currently fourth having overtaken Roma thanks to their win at the weekend but things are so close in the race for Champions League football. Maurizio Sarri’s side are just two points behind second-placed Inter Milan but only one clear of fifth-placed Roma and four ahead of Atalanta in sixth.

Napoli team news
Mario Rui was sent off in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Empoli at the weekend and will miss the next two matches. The Portuguese defender has started 18 times in Serie A so far this season but will likely be replaced by Mathias Olivera who has often rotated in his place. Giacomo Raspadori is also unavailable due to injury, having missed the past three matches.
Luciano Spalletti goes head-to-head with a former Napoli manager in Maurizio Sarri this evening and admits that he has always been a fan of his rival in the opposite dugout.
“It’s true that there’s a work ethic here that was partly introduced by previous coaches and footballers. I’ve noticed that Sarri and I have some things in common, like wearing a tracksuit and wanting to boss the game. A lot has been said about ball possession recently but it’s a factor that lets you choose which area of the pitch you want to play the game in. Then it depends on the tempo and intensity, but those are deeper issues.
“Sarri was a bit like Masaniello: he led a footballing philosophy. When I had the chance I would always choose to watch Sarri’s Napoli and enjoy the beauty of that team. This current Napoli side has sought its own identity and beauty. It doesn’t matter if its better or worse. I’m not interested in comparisons.”
The Italian was also quick to point out the differences however, when asked how the two managers differ tactically.
“I don’t like playing football in front of the defence. I’ve lost lots of games in my time but if I don’t like a way of playing I can’t convey it to my players. I like attacking football, the sort that people enjoy watching. The first thing I did when I joined Napoli was try to stoke up the love that Napoli fans feel for the team and for the style of football we play. And we’ve done that.
“Sarri may be more precise and orderly with his lines. We mix it up a bit more with players taking it in turns to get forward or drop back. I think we all like the football we play.“Lazio move in sync as a single unit. We’ll need to work hard to find openings in the solid ranks.”
Lazio team news
Lazio also have a suspension issue for Friday’s game with Nicolo Casale receiving his fifth yellow card of the Serie A campaign last night, meaning he now has to sit out one match. Having started Lazio’s last 15 matches, Casale will be a miss for Sarri but there has been a boost with Alessio Romagnoli reportedly recovering from his recent muscle injury. Pedro is still out, however.
