This is Morocco‘s only friendly before their World Cup opener against Croatia next week, with the Atlas Lions hoping to fare better than they did in 2018 when they bowed out at the group stage. Georgia, meanwhile, recently tasted success in the Uefa Nations League gaining promotion to League B.
Morocco team news
Hakim Ziyech is back in the Morocco squad once again having made his return in September, following the departure of manager Vahid Halilhodzic, and despite not featuring much for Chelsea he should be their main man at the World Cup and against Georgia. Ziyech should form part of Morocco’s attacking trio, but who joins him is yet to be confirmed with the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri and Abderrazak Hamdallah among those battling for the starting striker spot.
At the back, Yassine Bounou should start in goal with Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui the full-backs either side of Romain Saiss and possibly Nayef Aguerd if the latter is fit enough having missed a lot of action for West Ham recently.
But Amine Harit is will miss out on this game, and the World Cup, having suffered a serious knee injury in Marseille’s 3-2 win over Monaco on Sunday. Burnley’s Anass Zaroury has replaced him in the World Cup squad, having changed his international allegiance from Belgium to Morocco, but he shouldn’t be available for this game.
Georgia team news
Georgia have named a slightly weakened squad from the one which secured promotion in the Uefa Nations League last time out, with the likes of Otar Kakabadze, Lasha Dvali and Valeri Qazaishvili all staying home. There is also no Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who missed the last three Napoli matches through injury, news that will be a relief for Moroccan defenders.
“Kvaradona” has been phenomenal for Napoli this season, being directly involved in 18 goals across 17 matches, helping his side sit top of Serie A and qualify as group winners in the Champions League ahead of Liverpool.
Scoreline prediction: Morocco 2-1 Georgia
