In what has been a terribly inconsistent campaign, Marseille head into this clash with their arch-rivals on a run of two straight defeats. Of course, one of them came against Villarreal in the Europa League round-of-16, but the 3-1 loss in Spain was still enough to secure a 5-3 victory on aggregate. There were no celebrations last time out, though, as Les Phocéens fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Rennes, leaving them seventh in the table and seven points adrift of a Champions League spot. They’re a massive 20 points behind Sunday’s opposition.
PSG, of course, are strolling their way to another Ligue 1 title. The Parisians haven’t been overly convincing of late, drawing against Rennes, Monaco and Reims over the end of February and early March. However, they head into this match on back-to-back wins, first 3-1 in the cup against Nice, followed up by a 6-2 thrashing of Montpellier in league play that featured a hat-trick from wantaway talisman Kylian Mbappe. PSG are now 10 points clear of Monaco at the top of the table and it’s only a matter of time until they’re crowned champions for the 10th time in 12 years and record 12th occasion overall.
At least in league play, this has become something of a one-sided rivalry in recent times, with PSG winning five and drawing one of the last six Ligue 1 meetings and only losing once in any competition since late 2020.
Scoreline prediction: Marseille 1-3 PSG
