Manchester City return to competitive action in the Carabao Cup next week but first face one of their sister clubs Girona in what is their only official friendly during the World Cup break.
Man City team news
Man City had an incredible 16 players at the World Cup and while just one (Julian Alvarez) remains in the competition, there will still be a large number missing from the squad this weekend. The likes of Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, John Stones and Ederson all exited at the quarter-finals so will be given extra rest before returning.
However, Kevin De Bruyne is back after Belgium’s group stage exit and will be expected to play a part on Saturday. Man City do also have the likes of Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez who weren’t at the World Cup at all and will be raring to get going again.
Girona team news
Girona remain without Ibrahima Kebe but have no fresh concerns as they build fitness ahead of Spanish football’s return. The Spanish club have been busy in their preparations, playing three friendlies so far, including wins over Nice and Standard Liege.
Last time out Girona were held to a draw by fellow La Liga side Osasuna, with the likes of Paulo Gazzaniga, Oriol Romeu and Cristhian Stuani all involved.
Scoreline prediction: Man City 2-0 Girona
