Man City team news
It could very well be another summer of change at City who reached football’s mountain top last season. İlkay Gündoğan and Riyad Mahrez — who played key roles in their historic treble success — have since departed for Barcelona and Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League, respectively. Mateo Kovačić joined from Chelsea and has already been a featured player in Pep Guardiola’s pre-season preparations. Kevin De Bruyne, who sustained an injury in the 2023 Champions League, recently came back to full training, but may miss out against his favourite opposition.
New signing Joško Gvardiol only completed his move from RB Leipzig yesterday, but may be involved in some capacity, more than likely from the bench.
Arsenal team news
In their quest to close the gap, Arsenal paid a record British sum for Declan Rice’s services; the defensive midfielder is among three high-profile signings alongside Kai Havertz and Jurriën Timber, who have arrived from Chelsea and Ajax, respectively. Granit Xhaka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, though, departed with the former joining Bayer Leverkusen. Head coach Mikel Arteta could be without injured trio Takehiro Tomiyasu, Mohamed Elneny and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who could miss out playing against his former side.
