Jurgen Klopp’s side have won just one of their past four matches across all competitions, beating Ajax in their most recent Champions League game to leave them second in their group. Rangers, meanwhile, have been striving domestically but poor in Europe, bottom of the group without a point or even a goal scored.

Klopp compares Liverpool’s plight to Ronaldo and Messi

Liverpool have had a turgid season so far, currently ninth in the Premier League and already 11 points behind early leaders Arsenal. While they are just four points outside the top four, the Reds are in poor form and had to come from behind to eventually secure a 3-3 draw with Brighton at Anfield on Saturday.

Although Brighton shouldn’t be taken lightly, flying high in fourth, Liverpool’s weaknesses were the focus of the result as their defence was blown away to go 2-0 down. Liverpool did brighten up in the second half and went 3-2 up before Leandro Trossard equalised for Brighton to complete his hat-trick and give the Seagulls a deserved point.

It was the fourth draw of Liverpool’s season alongside two defeats across all competitions, including the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Napoli in the Champions League. But Jurgen Klopp isn’t too worried, believing his side can fight through their crisis of confidence.

“Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo at the moment is at the top of his confidence? It happens to all of us. Lionel Messi last season, pretty much the same,” he told reporters.

“You have to take a step in the right direction and when you’re ready, it’s back (the confidence).

“In individual sports you can fight yourself through it. In team sport, you have to do it together. It can be more complicated.”

Scoreline prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Rangers
