Inter Milan vs Juventus pre-match analysis
After an entertaining battle in Turin, the match descended into chaos during the dying embers and was marred by controversial fan behaviour.
After scoring an equalising penalty in the 95th minute, Romelu Lukaku put his finger to his lips in the direction of the home fans, who had been racially abusing him throughout the contest, prompting the referee to brandish a yellow card in the Belgian’s direction for, what he deemed to have been a ‘provocative gesture’.

As a result, 171 Juve fans have since been sanctioned by Italian authorities for racially abusing Lukaku, and the Inter striker’s ban has been overturned, after the president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) personally intervened.
Reflecting on the FIGC’s decision, Lukaku commented: “I believe that thanks to his intervention justice has been done and this sends out a great message to the whole world of sport and beyond.
“This has shown that the desire is there to fight racism.”
