Japan team news

Goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima retired after the World Cup, one of 12 players in that squad not to be called up for this friendly double-header. Also not involved is Takehiro Tomiyasu who had to pull out of the squad due to injury, picked up in Arsenal’s Europa League exit to Sporting CP.

There are six uncapped players in the Japan squad, but a lot of eyes will likely be on Kaoru Mitoma to see if he can carry over his fine form from Brighton this season. Takumi Minamino is another high profile name to miss out, alongside Yuto Nagatomo and Maya Yoshida.

Uruguay team news

Darwin Nunez has had to pull out of the Uruguay squad due to injury, suffering a knock to his ankle in Liverpool’s Champions League exit to Real Madrid. He is just one of a number of big names not included in the Uruguay squad, including fellow strikers Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez.

Ronald Araujo has also pulled out due to injury, bringing what is a very new Uruguay defensive set back with no Diego Godin, Martin Caceres or Jose Gimenez involved.
