Simeone Inzaghi’s men will be hoping to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2009/10 when they went on to win the competition, beating Bayern Munich in the final. Going into the game 2-0 up on aggregate, Inter Milan have been in such a position on eight previous occasions in the Champions League and have advanced each time.
Benfica have also been on the wrong end of a 2+ lead in the first leg of a two-legged Champions League tie on eight occasions, and have only advanced once.
The winner will face AC Milan in the semi-finals after they beat Napoli 2-1 on aggregate.
Inter Milan team news
On top of their 1-0 defeat to Monza at the weekend, Inter suffered another blow as Stefan de Vrij came off with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him out of Wednesday’s game. He joins fellow centre-back Milan Skriniar in the injury room, with the Slovenian nursing a back problem.
Up top, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez will likely lead the line but Romelu Lukaku will be hoping to make an impact having come off the bench to score in the first leg.
Benfica team news
Nicolas Otamendi missed the first leg due to suspension but is available once again and will go straight back into the starting XI. However, Alexander Bah continues to miss out with a knee injury suffered in the league defeat to Porto earlier this month.
Also on the sidelines are Mihailo Ristic and Julian Draxler, the latter being out for the season and set to return to parent club PSG.
