Gil Vicente started the new Primeira Liga season in the best possible way, beating Boavista and Portimonense in their opening two matches. However, they are now without a win in four games, following up those victories with defeats to Benfica and Santa Clara. Things have improved slightly after the international break with Gil Vicente drawing against Vizela and Belenenses but they remain in seventh.

Porto, meanwhile, are looking to win the title having finished second last season and they’ve made a positive start. Sergio Conceicao’s men are still unbeaten after six games, winning four and drawing two, sitting ahead of Sporting CP on goal difference as things stand. Before the international break, Porto had three wins over Belenenses, Familicao and Arouca and a draw with Martimo. Since the return they have drawn against Sporting CP and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, but got back to winning ways with a bang at the weekend, bearing Moreirense 5-0.

Having had to deal with inconsistent playing time, starting 16 of his 30 league games last season (14 substitute appearances) Diaz is now one of the key members of the team and Porto are reaping the rewards.

Diaz is the Primeira Liga’s top scorer so far this season, netting five goals, including two in the 5-0 win over Moreirense at the weekend. The Colombian midfielder has also found the net against Sporting CP, Maritimo and Belensenses and is just one goal behind his total tally for last season.

Adding his one assist against Arouca, Diaz has only failed to be directly involved in a goal in one of his six league appearances (two of seven including the Champions League) and no player in the Primeira Liga has been involved in more goals this season.
