The Cottagers are back in the big time, but there will be no settling in period for Marco Silva, as last season’s runners-up, Liverpool, travel south this weekend. Despite relegation in 2020/21, Fulham managed to go unbeaten against Jurgen Klopp, famously winning 1-0 at Anfield, but the German will be determined to exact his revenge, and he has won each of his last four Premier League opening fixtures.

Fulham team news

Harry Wilson sustained a knee injury in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly and could now face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with Marco Silva confirming that Nathaniel Chalobah also picked up an issue in that game as well. “Both Harry Wilson and Nathaniel Chalobah, they are injured,” Silva said.

“Let’s see how things go but it doesn’t look (like) we have good news in that situation. Let’s see with both.

“Let’s wait for our medical staff to give more information. Let’s hope it will not be so serious but it doesn’t look good really.”

Liverpool team news

Alisson was absent for Liverpool’s Community Shield win over Manchester City, with Adrian deputising in his absence, but Klopp did confirm before the match at the King Power that the Brazilian is back in training and will be ready for the opening Premier League match. Diogo Jota was also absent on Saturday with a muscle agitation, though unlike Alisson, he faces a race against the clock to feature in the capital.

Klopp said last week ahead of the City clash: “Ali trained today more than the day before so he will be definitely available for Fulham.

“And the same for Diogo. Diogo was not here with us so how could he play a football game? That will take a while unfortunately. That’s it.”

Liverpool finished up their pre-season against Strasbourg on Sunday, and questions emerged from that showdown, with Naby Keita and Curtis Jones absent, while Ibrahima Konate came off with a knock.

“Naby is ill, but I think he will be back today, the first day,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference.

On Konate, he added: “We have to see how long it will take, but he is out for a while.”

Caoimhin Kelleher, Kostas Tsimikas and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are Klopp’s other confirmed absentees, with the latter recently suffering a serious hamstring injury that’s likely to render him unavailable for a protracted period of time.

Scoreline prediction: Fulham 0-3 Liverpool
