Days before this latest west London derby Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his duties. A humbling 1-0 loss at Champions League group stage rivals Dinamo Zagreb was the last straw. The much-travelled German tactician follows Scott Parker as the league’s second managerial casualty. Brighton boss Graham Potter is favourite to succeed him on the Stamford Bridge hot seat.

A change presents an opportunity for a fresh start. Whoever follows Tuchel will already be the third Mason Mount will have played under. As far as ex-Blues defender Frank Leboeuf is concerned the young Englishman needs to step up big time following his performance earlier this week

“I want to talk about Mason Mount. We never talk about that guy because he’s the little boy from Chelsea,” he told ESPN following the Zagreb loss.

“But I’m sorry, he disappeared. I want to know where the guy is. He’s a fantastic player, he has all the talent, but his involvement into the team is not enough, like any others.

“That was an appalling performance against a very average team.”

Fulham team news

There are three players missing for the hosts this weekend. Antonee Robinson, Manor Solomon and Harry Wilson sit out with respective injuries. Aleksandar Mitrović will once again spearhead Fulham’s offence. He’s scored six goals in Fulham’s opening six Premier League matches this season, netting in the last four in a row. The last player to score in five consecutive Premier League appearances for a newly promoted team was Peter Odemwingie in May 2011 for West Brom. No player has scored in five consecutive Premier League appearances for the Cottagers.

Chelsea team news

Whoever takes charge of this match it’s certain there will be few changes from Chelsea’s last starting lineup. Summer recruit Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sustained a hand injury and will be missing for the remainder of this month. He joins N’Golo Kanté in the Blues physioroom. Armando Broja, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are hoping to come in as Aubameyang’s replacement though it’s likely either one of Raheem Sterling or Kai Havertz will lead Chelsea’s attack.

Scoreline prediction: Fulham 1-2 Chelsea
