France were frustrated in their World Cup opener, held to a goalless draw by Jamaica in a game many expected Les Bleues would win pretty comfortably. Quarter-finalists in 2019, France have only failed to make it out of the group stage at the World Cup once, but a negative result here could put them in big trouble.

Brazil were absolutely fantastic in their 4-0 win over Panama to open the World Cup, even when you take into account the level of the opponent. The one-time finalists had pure football on display and it was summed up perfectly by their third goal which saw first-time passing and a backheeled assist. Already two points clear at the top of the group, Brazil know a win would secure their spot in the last 16 and may even seal top spot in the other result goes their way.

France vs Brazil goalscorer tip

Ary Borges to score first @ 5/1 with Ladbrokes

Ary Borges was the star of the show in Brazil’s 4-0 win over Panama, bagging a hat-trick as well as recording one assist. Making her World Cup debut, Ary was just the fifth player to score a hat-trick on their first-ever appearance in the competition but the first Brazilian to do so.

Although Brazil have never beaten France, they are the team in form as shown by their win over Panama while Les Bleues drew with Jamaica. Pia Sundhage’s side have also won seven of their past eight games with the only failure coming in a penalty shootout defeat to England in the Women’s Finalissima. And while Brazil have kept back-to-back clean sheets, they have also conceded in recent matches against the bigger names, including Germany, USA and Canada. France, meanwhile, haven’t had a longer goalless streak since 2016 so there is the feeling that it could end this weekend.

France vs Brazil team news

Wendie Renard could miss the game against Brazil, and the rest of the group stage, after suffering a calf injury and she’s not the only doubt. Selma Bacha and Elisa De Almeida also suffered injuries which kept them out of the opening draw with Jamaica, with Sakina Karchaoui starting instead of the former. Aissatou Tounkara could be among those in contention to replace Renard should she, nor De Almeida, recover.

Pia Sundhage has a fresh squad from which to choose and may opt to stick with the same XI that started against Panama, which means a bench role for Marta.
