Flamengo vs Olimpia Asuncion match preview:
Drawn into Group A, due to being the defending champions, Flamengo would finish runners-up to Racing with Ñublense and Aucas ending third and fourth, respectively. Rubro-Negro won three of their six matches while suffering one defeat. Of their 11 goals three were scored by Pedro who ended up as Flamengo’s leading scorer. En route to last year’s success, the club’s third-ever title, Pedro finished as the Copa Libertadores’ top scorer with 12 strikes.
Olimpia, meanwhile, topped Group H unbeaten on 14 points (four wins and two draws). Guillermo Paiva would subsequently register four goals across six appearances. This also marks Olimpia’s first knockout stage outing since 2020/21 when they reached the quarter-finals. As recently as 2012/13, they were Copa Libertadores finalists, a seventh continental showdown with three of those (1979, 1990 and 2002) ending in success.
