Feyenoord vs Benfica match preview:

Dutch champions Feyenoord close their pre-season with a friendly against Portuguese side Benfica ahead of next week’s season opener. Before the Eredivisie campaign starts, Feyenoord face PSV in the Johan Cruyff Shield, their first appearance in the Super Cup since 2018 when they did beat PSV on penalties. As is often the case, there was a price for Feyenoord’s success with Benfica coming in for midfielder Orkun Kokcu, one of the Dutch side’s stars. There have been new arrivals too, though, with Calvin Stengs joining from Nice and Ramiz Zerrouki signed from FC Twente.

A battle between champions, Benfica won the Primeira Liga by two points last season, finishing ahead of Porto for their record-extending 38th title. Pre-season ahead of the new campaign has been very busy for Benfica, who also have the Portuguese Super Cup against Porto before the league starts. This is the last of six friendlies for Benfica, with the Portuguese champions having beaten Southampton, FC Basel, Al-Nassr and Celta Vigo before losing to Burnley. As mentioned, Kokcu was signed for Benfica from Feyenoord and he has been joined by the returning Angel Di Maria, and David Jurasek. But they have said goodbye to the likes of Haris Seferovic, Alejandro Grimaldo and Julian Weigl.
